Part One of the NYSTCE Multi-Subject 7-12 (241) is Literacy and English Language Arts. This test will assess four competencies, and the approximate percentage of each competency is as follows:

Testing dates for the NYSTCE Multi-Subject 7-12 (241/244/245) are available year-round, Monday through Saturday (excluding some holidays.) You may register for the exam and view test centers through Pearson Vue. The cost of the exam, if all three parts are taken together, is $161. If taken separately, the cost breakdown is as follows:

  • Part Two: Mathematics (NYSTCE 244): $59
  • Part Three: Arts and Sciences (NYSTCE 245): $43

Administrators will provide a formula sheet and scientific calculators on the computer screen for Part Two, the mathematics portion of the exam.

NYSTCE Multi-Subject Secondary Exam Day Testing Policies

When registering for the NYSTCE Multi-Subject: Secondary Teachers (241/244/245), the candidate agrees to all test participation rules, including all test center rules and expectations. Candidates are not allowed to bring mobile phones, watches, or electronic devices, large pieces of jewelry, wallets and bags, notes, writing utensils, firearms, and food or drink. Additionally, visitors are not allowed to accompany candidates into the test center. A calculator will be provided on the computer screen during the mathematics portion of the exam. If an individual brings their own, it is subject to inspection by the exam facilitator. Candidates may be asked to turn out pockets, push up sleeves, or lift hair upon entering the testing room at the beginning of the exam and during breaks. A facilitator will monitor the room while the exam is taken, and everyone will be asked to refrain from making any noises that would result in a disturbance for other exam takers. Candidates must bring one current government-issued identification in English with the same name as the exam registration. Examples of acceptable identification include:

Test scores are reported directly to individual candidates, the NYSED, and the institution(s) indicated upon registration (if applicable.) Test-takers must register social security numbers accurately to facilitate reporting their score to the NYSED.

For Part Three, candidates will receive preliminary test scores at the test center, but these results are not acceptable substitutes for a score report. The official score reports will be available between two and four weeks upon the completion of the exam.

Candidates may request reasonable alternative testing accommodations if they are unable to take the exam under standard conditions.
