Create AccountThe Georgia Assessments for the Certification of Educators are the official teacher certification exams for the state. The GACE is a multi-layered exam that teaching candidates are required to pass before a certification officer approves their application to educate. The general exam tests teaching candidates on their Math, Reading and Writing skills, but examinees who want to specialize in specific subjects must also pass additional content exams.

Create AccountThere are multiple types of GACE exams used for varying purposes, but passing scores fall into two categories: 220 to pass at the induction level and 250 to pass at the professional level. Some exams accept both thresholds as passing, while some only accept the professional level, so it is important to check which score needs to be achieved when preparing for a particular GACE test. It should also be noted that these are scaled scores that are calculated based on raw point totals derived from the number of questions answered correctly on a given test. For context, the scaled score range for GACE exams runs from 100 to 300. Knowing what scores pass is a great place to start when studying for an exam.

Create AccountAfter completing the Georgia Assessments for the Certification of Educators, examinees have several ways they can find out if they passed their particular test. One option is to refer to the unofficial GACE score report.
Examinees who take the multiple-choice exam and choose to report their scores, can view their GACE unofficial score report immediately after completing the test. Unofficial score reports are not available if the examinee took a test that posed essay or constructed-response questions.
A result of "No Score" on an unofficial report means the exam results require more analysis but does not indicate that there will be a problem with receiving the official report.
Test-takers interested in discovering if they achieved the GACE passing percentage only have to wait for around a month after completion of the GACE assessment to view their official results.
The minimum passing score differs per exam and is decided by a committee of Georgia educators. The score report includes a "Pass/Not Passed" result. The "Pass/Not Passed" designation is shown on the same page as the assessment's minimum passing score.
Certain exams have tiered passing scores, meaning two different scores for two different levels of certification. When taking assessments made up of more than one test, the examinee must pass all the required tests. If an examinee passes one test in an exam, they will not be required to take that test again if they need to retake the entire assessment.
GACE test score reports are incredibly detailed to provide examinees with as much information on their performance as possible. The score report includes a tiered score (when applicable), passing minimum and "Pass/ Not Passed" designation. Additionally, score reports also show the recipient's passing level and scaled scores, if applicable. Scaled scores indicate performance on individual sub-tests. While comparable across every version of the same sub-test, they are not necessarily comparable to different GACE subject tests.
The detailed report allows examinees to understand how they can develop their skills and what subjects to focus on if they need to retake an assessment or a part of it.
The score reports provided by the test administrator show much more than just whether the recipient met the minimum GACE passing score.
The information listed on the score report includes:
Test-takers who fail to achieve a GACE test passing score result can retake the test after 30 days, but the test administrator does not state any limits on how many retakes are allowed. There are no additional fees for retaking the test; however, examinees will be required to pay the same GACE test cost they paid on their first attempt for each portion of the GACE test they need to retake. Obeying the retake rules is incredibly important for examinees. The test administrator or the Georgia Professional Standards Commission may invalidate the test of an examinee who violates the rules for retakes.
GACE scores are automatically sent to state authorities once the results are available. The Georgia Professional Standards Commission, the program provider (when applicable) and others designated by the examinee will receive the GACE test scores. Test-takers not enrolled in a Georgia state-approved educator program can have three additional score recipients. Any score report for a particular GACE assessment distributed to recipients includes every score a recipient has received for that assessment, including past results. The score report copies are included in the examinee's testing fees.
GACE test score report dates vary depending on the exam. GACE tests that are continuously administered send out test results seven days or sooner after one is taken. Certain Program Admission tests (710 and 212), such as the GACE Program Admission Assessment, put out their scores twenty-eight days after the GACE test dates. The rest of the GACE score reporting dates align with specific testing windows.
Examinees can receive multiple copies of their GACE test score reports for free. This measure ensures that test-takers will be able to submit their results to whoever is requesting them. Examinees can request copies of their score reports using the test administrator's website. The site also includes the coding information needed to send results to the examinee's college or university.
Georgia has strict testing policies, and administrators are very meticulous in applying ethical principles that ensure Georgia GACE scores are valid. Any violation of the rules calls an examinee's assessment performance into question, and, therefore, their results may be invalidated.
The name the test-taker uses on the GACE exam must be identical to the name on the official identification documents they will present on the day of the GACE test. This is the case regardless of whether the test-taker has a multiple-part last name, no last name or no first name. If test-takers have changed their names, they should ensure that at the time of their GACE registration, they use the name presented on their official identity document. Expired identity documents will not be accepted. Breaking this rule can result in the invalidation of assessment results.
The exam administrator may void an assessment's results if they find testing errors stemming from problems with the administration of the GACE. Test-takers, exam administrators, technical errors or acts of nature may be deemed responsible for testing irregularities. If testing irregularities merit voiding or canceling an exam, Georgia's educational authorities may allow examinees to retake the test for free.
Misconduct at the GACE test locations can result in the examinee's test results being voided. The test-taker will also forfeit their testing fees if administrators determine that misconduct has occurred. Misconduct occurs when a test-taker fails to comply with a testing center's rules, but other behaviors can be considered misconduct, as well. Misconduct can include bringing prohibited items into the testing center or using banned testing aids.
Plagiarism is not tolerated by the test administrators as it does not reflect the independent work or thought processes of the examinee. Administrators will cancel any GACE test score that show enough evidence of plagiarism. Evidence of plagiarism includes answers copied from other GACE responses, quotes and other passages copied from published works without attribution.
Test administrators may deem an examinee's GACE results invalid if they find substantial evidence of suspicious test-taking behavior that doesn't meet the criteria for violating the other GACE rules. Unusual answer patterns, discrepant handwriting or photographs and inconsistent performance on different parts of the test may result in invalid GACE test scores.
Examinees notified that their GACE test may have invalid scores are allowed to address concerns. In the case of an invalid score, a test-taker may be able to voluntarily cancel their test results, request that Georgia educational authorities make a decision on their results or retake the test for free.
