How to Sign Up for GACE

Preparing for GACE Registration

Georgia Assessments for the Certification of Education registration is a key milestone for starting a career as a Georgia educator. Before prospective educators sign up for the GACE test, there are several factors to consider and verify. First, one must consider the reason they are entering GACE registration. Common reasons include the completion of Program Admission assessment requirements and current enrollment in a Georgia-approved education preparation program. Depending on the reason that a prospective educator needs to register for GACE, the educator can pick appropriate test that they need to take, check the availability of GACE test dates and test centers, and obtain approval to test from any programs with which they are currently enrolled. The official test rules and Registration Bulletin published by ETS are essential resources for any prospective test-taker.

Steps to Sign Up for GACE

GACE registration is a simple process so long as a prospective test-taker follows these steps.

1. Create online accounts with myPSC and ETS GACE.

2. Choose a test date and a testing center.

3. Submit a request for eligibility in myPSC.

4. Complete the GACE registration on the ETS GACE account.

These steps are outlined below, providing more details on how to sign up for GACE.

1. Create Online Accounts

As the first step in signing up for GACE, a prospective educator must create accounts with myPSC and ETS GACE. myPSC provides information to ETS, and the ETS GACE account is where the actual test registration will take place. When signing up for these accounts, the test-taker must ensure that they are opened under the exact legal name matching the identification that they will be using at the test center. Test-takers should ensure that they have primary and supplemental ID documents which match this name before registration. Acceptable forms of identification are as follows:

  • Primary ID: a government ID, such as a passport, driver's license, military ID, or state/national ID
  • Supplemental ID: all primary IDs, student ID, or letter of identity from an educational institution

myPSC

myPSC is the personal account of the Georgia Professional Standards Commission, which will provide information to ETS GACE to allow for testing. To create the myPSC account necessary to sign up for GACE, follow these steps.

  1. Navigate to myPSC on the Georgia PSC website.
  2. Select 'Register' and complete the on-screen prompts.
  3. Complete the myPSC registration process, filling out all required personal information.
  4. Print out all myPSC account information, especially the Georgia certification ID number. This ID number will identify the test-taker during the registration process.

Providing myPSC with this information and keeping it close at hand will ensure a smooth registration process.

ETS GACE

The ETS GACE account is the primary medium through which registration will take place. Completing this account is as simple as the following steps.

  1. Navigate to the ETS GACE online registration system and click 'Create Account'.
  2. Provide personal information, such as the Georgia certification ID, name, date of birth, and social security number.
  3. Ensure all information matches the myPSC account information. Only the username and password can differ from the myPSC account.
  4. Continue with the GACE registration process.

The myPSC and ETS GACE accounts are both essential for signing up for GACE, so test-takers should ensure that they take note of their username and password.

2. Choose a Test Date and Center

There are many GACE test locations throughout Georgia and the United States. Choosing a test date and test center is a matter of checking the dates that a given test is offered at the ETS GACE website. For instance, the GACE History test is run continuously throughout the entirety of the year and can be scheduled at any time, while Health Education is only given throughout five periods during the 2021-2022 testing year. No matter the situation, it is essential that any prospective educator checks the ETS GACE website for information on GACE registration deadlines, GACE registration dates, and test dates to ensure that the rest of the GACE registration proceeds smoothly. Setting a date well in advance of when the scores need to be fully reported will also assist, especially because different tests have different average delays for test score reporting.

Some may also wonder: Can you take the GACE online? The answer is yes, but only for certain tests: the Program Admission Tests for Reading, Writing and Mathematics as well as their Combined Test version can be taken online at home.

3. Submit Request for Eligibility in myPSC

To request eligibility as part of GACE registration, one must select the reason for taking the GACE assessment, ensure that the correct assessments are selected, and if enrolled in a preparation program, ensure that the given program is properly linked to the user in the myPSC system.

The listed, official reasons for taking a GACE assessment are as follows:

  1. Satisfying the Program Admission requirement
  2. Current enrollment in a Georgia-approved program
  3. Gaining eligibility for employment with intent to complete a Georgia-approved program
  4. Current enrollment or plans to enroll in a non-Georgia program with intent to meet Georgia's certification requirements
  5. Adding a certification to a valid teaching certificate or a Certificate of Eligibility
  6. Specific instruction to take a required educator assessment by the Georgia PSC
  7. Taking Georgia Educator Ethics or the Georgia Ethics for Educational Leadership assessments for program entry

Reasons 1, 3, and 7 require that a prospective test-taker add the program as a score recipient, while all other reasons will result in scores being automatically sent to the respective recipients.

4. Complete GACE Registration in the ETS GACE Account

After the completion of the previous steps, it is possible to complete GACE registration through the ETS GACE account. After navigating to the ETS GACE website and signing in to the ETS GACE account, the user must click "Register for a Test" under "Registrations and Orders" in My GACE Home. Then, the user must agree to a disclaimer in regards to having taken the previous steps outlined in this article, including reading the Registration Bulletin. After that, they must confirm their personal information, select any and all tests for which they wish to register, and click Schedule Test(s).

Once the test or tests are selected, the user must choose a test center for each test. It is possible that the same center can host multiple tests, but that varies by location. Then, they must choose a date and time, and once they click Confirm and Continue, the scheduling is almost complete. If the user needs to add any score recipients, that should be done at this stage.

After confirming payment for the chosen test(s), the registration will be complete and the user may print their admission ticket for each test, either immediately after registration or at any time prior to taking the test.

Most GACE tests require registration at least two full days in advance of the test. The ASLPI test requires that the user register at least four weeks in advance. The Georgia Ethics and Paraprofessional assessments have no set registration dates. The Teacher Leadership Assessment has specific ranges, outlined in the ETS GACE's Registration Bulletin.

How Many Times Can You Take the GACE Test?

If anyone wonders, "How many times can you take the GACE test?", then they are in luck. ETS GACE has a relatively lenient test retaking policy, allowing test-takers to retake most tests 30 days after the previous test date. The GACE Paraprofessional assessment has a repeat time of 28 days instead. All GACE test cost associated with test registration apply to a retaken test, but the user can take the test as many times as necessary so long as their test dates are that many days apart. However, both ETS and the GaPSC warn in the Registration Bulletin that if this policy is violated for any reason, then scores can be cancelled.
