How Much Does It Cost to Take the GACE?

The cost of the Georgia Assessments for the Certification of Educators (GACE) exam depends on the certification desired:

American Sign Language Proficiency Interview (ASLPI) - $165
Program Admission (combined tests) - $128
Program Admission (any two tests) - $103
Program Admission (single test) - $78
Certification Upgrade - $193
Content Exam (combined) - $193
Content Exam (single) - $123
Educational Leadership - $193

Each of these GACE test prices include the $25 registration fee and the $28 testing center fee. Some tests and testing locations may have additional fees, as we'll detail in the following sections.

Additional Services & Fees

The GACE test cost may end up higher than just the initial fees. Testers will be charged an additional $25 for any changes made to the test center location, date, or time. Depending on the type of GACE assessment and the location of the testing site, testers may have to pay additional fees.

A $25 proctor fee may be charged for the ASLPI exam at the testing location. Testers must pay with cash.
Any exams taken at an international testing site will have an additional, non-refundable $50 applied to the initial test registration cost.

Georgia Ethics Assessment

There are two GACE Georgia Ethics Assessments: one for new educators and one for future leaders.

Georgia Educator Ethics (360) - $30
Georgia Educational Leadership Ethics (380) - $40

Due to the interactive format of the assessments, testers have up to five opportunities per registration to complete and pass either Ethics exam. And, since these assessments are required for those who are seeking new educator or leadership certifications, neither of these assessments is eligible for a GACE refund.

GACE Paraprofessional Assessment

The GACE Paraprofessional Assessment is for Georgia residents who have an associate degree, at least 60 out of 120 bachelor degree credit hours, or a strong, and verifiable, understanding of written language and mathematics and an interest in working in a classroom setting.

This exam costs $38 and is non-refundable. Testers will complete the exam through their school district, Regional Education Service Agency (RESA), or other agency. The Paraprofessional Assessment is not administered at any GACE test locations.

GACE Teacher Leadership Assessment

For those seeking a leadership certification, GACE offers the Teacher Leadership Assessment.

initial task submission fee - $350
task resubmission fee - $75 per resubmitted task

Due to the scope of the Teacher Leadership Assessment, testers will also incur a $50 rescheduling fee if changes are made to the original submission window.

Cancellations may be done through the tester's GACE account or by calling the customer service line. Deadlines for Teacher Leadership Assessment cancellations match the registration deadlines for the submission/resubmission dates selected by the tester.

Refunds will only be approved if the assessment is canceled by the registration deadline.

If an initial submission is canceled by the initial deadline, the total amount of the refund will be $230 (includes the $120 refund fee).
If a resubmission is canceled by the resubmission deadline, the total amount of the refund will be $60 for each canceled task (includes a $15 refund fee per task).

A refund will not be issued for a canceled Teacher Leadership Assessment if the tester:

cancels after the registration deadline
does not give notice about a cancellation
declines to submit the assigned tasks

GACE Test Payment

Payments are made online or over the phone during the GACE registration process. The following payment methods are accepted:

all major credit/debit cards
PayPal
electronic checks drawn from U.S. financial institutions.

If a tester needs to use a different form of payment, they should contact the ETS Customer Service line at 1-855-225-7178.

Before remitting a payment for any of the GACE assessments, testers should be aware of several policies:

Partial and installment payments are not accepted.
Fees are subject to change.
Only payments made in U.S. dollars are accepted.
Any and all balances must be paid in full before registering for additional ETS exams.
"Value added" and other similar taxes are not included.
Not paying at the time of registration will result in the cancellation of the registration.
Eligible refunds will be made in U.S. dollars only.
Accepted payment methods can be changed at any time.

The assessments are not eligible for GACE fee waiver. All fees must be made in total during the registration process. A registration will not be considered complete until all assessment costs have been paid.

GACE Refunds & Cancellations

There are two exams that are nonrefundable: the Georgia Ethics and the Paraprofessional. All other GACE assessments, including the Teacher Leadership exam, are eligible for at least a partial refund if canceled by the test-specific deadlines.

Refunds will only be approved for the Teacher Leadership assessment if the exam is canceled by the registration deadline. More information about the refund guidelines for this test can be found in the GACE Teacher Leadership Assessment section of this page.

All other GACE assessments are refundable if the registration is canceled at least three days before the scheduled exam day. Refunds will not be given for cancellations done two or fewer days before the test.

Testers who cancel before the cutoff date will be issued refunds based on the original payment method.

Refunds will be processed immediately for payments made via credit, debit, or PayPal.
Refunds for testers who paid with electronic check will have to wait an additional 7-10 days for processing, depending on the tester's financial institution.

The following fees are eligible for a GACE refund:

Registration fee - $25
Test Center fee - $28 (international test center fee is non-refundable)
50% of remaining test fee determined by subtracting the registration fee and test center fee from the original exam price and by dividing the result by two. For example, if a tester is canceling a Certification Upgrade exam and is eligible for a refund, the 50% of the remaining test fee would be $70, as ($193 - $25 - $28) / 2 - $70.

No refunds will be granted for any GACE registrations canceled within three days of the scheduled exam date.

What is a passing score for the GACE?

GACE assessments are scored on a 100-300 point range. Passing scores range between 220 and 250 depending on the assessment being taken.
