Create AccountThe Florida Teacher Certification Math 6-12 Exam is a certification exam for aspiring educators to teach mathematics for grades 6-12 in Florida. The FTCE Math 6-12 is one of four FTCE tests administered and is a subtest of the Subject Area Examinations (SAE) test category. The Florida Department of Education approved this FTCE subject area exam which seeks to measure a candidate's knowledge of mathematics concepts and their professional readiness to teach in the Florida school systems.
A computer-based test (CBT) administers the exam. Candidates coming from teaching programs approved by a state or those in programs not approved by a state may sit for the exam. The FTCE exam is open for all to take at designated FTCE testing locations; however, there are educational requirements for certification that examinees need to be aware of when applying. The FTCE retake policy sets no limit to the number of times candidates can sit for the exam.

Each competency in the FTCE Math 6-12 will test various areas of math knowledge such as linear algebra equations in Algebra, binomials in Advanced Algebra, a graph of functions in Functions, triangle relationships in Geometry, the midpoint of lines in Coordinate Geometry, sine and cosine in Trigonometry, probability and quantitative variables in statistics and probability, derivatives in Calculus, proofs in Mathematical Reasoning, and assessments in Instruction and Assessment. This list is not exhaustive as each of the FTCE competencies in the Florida 6-12 Math Certification exam tests a number of skills.
Showing up on exam day unprepared lowers the chances of achieving higher FTCE scores on the FTCE Math 6-12 exam. Candidates can follow these steps:
Examinees can organize the content areas by difficulty as well as their total test percentage. For example, if a candidate has challenges with geometry concepts, which makes up of the higher percentages at 15%, they should rank that high on the study list. The Florida Teacher Certification Math 6-12 exam is a computer-based test (CBT) consisting of 70 multiple-choice questions to be taken in 2 and half hours (150 minutes), which includes any breaks taken. The competencies contain a multitude of math calculations needed for the test, thus, a Texas Instruments TI-30X IIS scientific calculator will be available for students at the exam center. Examinees are not permitted to bring their own calculators.
The exam covers several question types such as word problems, selecting the correct answer, choosing the best solution, questions based on a sample illustration, etc. Test-takers can make use of an FTCE practice test to practice answering these types of questions.

Examinees can benefit from taking an FTCE Math 6-12 practice test once or even several times before their FTCE test dates to adjust their study guides so they can focus on weaker areas and familiarize themselves with the question format and timing. Candidates can adjust their own pace to make sure they can get through all of the questions in the time allotted on the real FTCE test.
Candidates coming from a college program can consult with faculty to point them in the direction of effective test prep materials. Candidates who are not in a college program or who already have a baccalaureate degree have the option to locate an Educator Preparation Institute (EPI) to take test prep courses (including a math teacher certification practice test) to obtain certification. Test prep materials allow examinees to get used to the testing format and the skills they need to learn.
All FTCE tests and subtests are PASS or NOT PASS. Candidates' FTCE scores on the FTCE Math 6-12 exam must meet a minimum scaled score of 200, which equates to about 67% of the test questions (raw score). Candidates must pass all the subtests taken. If candidates fail a subtest exam, they can pay for the FTCE retake fee to be eligible for a retake after 31 days. A PENDING score indicates that the test could be delayed or unavailable. In this instance, scores will become available once a human evaluator scores the test.
There are 75 multiple-choice questions in total on the FTCE Math exam. This means a minimum of 50 questions must be answered correctly to pass the exam.
Students may not bring their own calculators to the exam. However, a calculator will be provided by the testing center on test day.
Generally, the FTCE maths exam is considered pretty difficult, having only slightly above a 50% yearly first try pass rate. However, students experience success with adequate preparation.
