The CSET Business test is divided into three subtests, known as Subtest I (test code 175), Subtest II (test code 176), and Subtest III (test code 177). These tests can be taken individually or all together, but note that even when choosing the session that includes all 3 subtests in conjunction, candidates will not be given the tests at the same time. Test will be given in order and with a specific session length allowed per test. Upon completion of each subtest, candidates will not be allowed to return to previous tests.
When taking the subtests together, candidates are given a total session length of 5 hours, and while subtests can be admitted early, a maximum session length is given to each. For Subtests I and III, candidates are given 1 hour and 45 minutes, and Subtest II gives 1 hour and 30 minutes. When taken together in the 5 hour session length, the CSET format includes 120 multiple-choice questions and 6 constructed-response questions that are extended or short (focused).
Whether taken individually or together, candidates are given an additional 15 minutes to complete a tutorial and a nondisclosure agreement. Any time taken for breaks are considered a part of the session length. Subtest II requires a handwritten portion, and the testing center will provide candidates with the materials and instructions necessary to scan and upload those responses.

When taking Subtest III of the CSET business test, candidates are given a session length of 1 hour and 45 minutes to complete 40 multiple-choice questions and 2 constructed-response questions. Subtest III covers two domains:
Both domains consist of 9 total subdomains that, in turn, have 33 total embedded topics that will assess the candidate on their understanding. The Information Technology domain consists of 5 subdomains:
Overall, the domain of Information Technology will assess candidates on their understanding of related terminology, procedures, and principles; procedures and principles related to security, ethics, and data integrity for technology systems; communications and networking systems; and their ability to apply basic concepts of systems development and programming in situations related to business.
The Business Environment and Communication domain consists of 4 subdomains:
Overall, this main domain will assess candidates on their understanding of business environments, procedures and principles for business ownership, the communications role in business environments, varying career paths and opportunities to develop skills in careers and employment, and the scope of international business. Be prepared to read text, scenarios, quotes, and other sources and analyze or explain the material, sometimes correcting or changing it to illustrate knowledge.
This test is the most focused on the human resources side of business understanding, and candidates are encouraged to undergo a CSET Business practice test to help prepare.
Upon completion of the CSET Business test as a whole or its individual subtests, the CSET results will be sent to the Commission on Teacher Credentialing and to an institution or office that the candidate authorizes, if any. These locations will only receive passing status and scaled scores (if not passed), but candidates will receive the full test results report, which also includes diagnostic feedback.
Any test results will become available for viewing within 7 weeks of testing completion, and these results will be available by 10 p.m. PST on the test score release date, and will be available for viewing for up to 2 years within the account. If requested, candidates can also get these scores sent to them via email.
All CSET tests are scored via a scale. These scaled scores are based on the amount of raw score points that are earned in each section, and then by weighting each section. These raw scores are then converted onto a scale of 100 to 300, with a minimum passing score of 220. This minimum CSET passing score applies to each subtest individually, meaning that if two of the three are met with this score, they do not need to be taken again even if the third does not meet this score.
There is an unlimited number of times that candidates may take any CSET Business test (detailed below are the required fees for testing). Preparation for the CSET Business test is extremely important. There are many online CSET practice test and even study guides that can be purchased to learn tips, tricks, and secrets of the test itself. When working on a CSET Business practice test, the most important thing is for the candidate to be honest with themselves on their knowledge. Using this honesty when studying will help the candidate accurately prepare for the test and receive the minimum passing score of 220 or better!
While some versions of the CSET test are available to take online from home, the CSET Business test has not yet been added to this phase. Therefore, candidates will need to do the CSET registration for an in-person test. Registration for testing can be done on the California Educator Credentialing Assessment website. Candidates must create an account to register and receive a computer-based test (CBT) confirmation, which lists the testing date, time, and center location that the test will be administered.
Although tests may be retaken an unlimited number of times in cases of non-passing results, each time will require a fee. Candidates must also wait a period of 45 days from the last test scheduled, even if the candidate did not complete or attempt the test.
For the CSET Business test, the fee for each individual subtest is $99 when taken separately, and $297 when taking all three together. All registration fees must be paid via credit, debit, or check card, and candidates can expect to see this charge on their statement under the merchant name 'Eval Systems Test Fee'. There is no additional fee to change the registration, but additional copies of test results requested are $10 each.
On the day of the CSET Business test, candidates must report to their testing center location 15 minutes before the test is scheduled to begin. If the candidate arrives later, they may be admitted into testing, but if not, candidates will be considered absent, resulting in inability to take the test or receive any kind of refund or credit. These candidates will need to re-register and repay any fees to test again at least 45 days later.
Only in cases of emergency circumstances (such as injury, hospitalization, illness, or death in the immediate family) will absentees be eligible for a fee voucher that allows them to do the CSET reschedule without repaying any fees. Request these vouchers online within 30 calendar days, along with a written request that describes the emergency situation and written documentation that proves the validity of the emergency (such as a hospital note signed by a physician).
Bring at least one form of government issued ID that bears their photograph and signature (such as a state issued driver license or a passport). Any student or employee issued ID will not be accepted. Candidates are not permitted to bring writing utensils or notebook paper to the testing center; a pencil and booklet of erasable sheets will be provide to take notes in their place (any notes taken will not be scored). Testing centers recommend candidates to dress in comfortable layers and soft-soled shoes for a quiet and comfortable testing environment, as candidates will not be allowed to leave once testing has begun.
Candidates may only leave for restroom breaks as permitted by the testing administrator, but keep in mind that this time is considered a part of the session length. For parents and nursing mothers, note that children will not be allowed into the center, so care arrangement must be made beforehand. The CSET Business test will be monitored by video and audio recording at all times. Communication is not permitted with anyone (either in the testing center or via communication device) other than with the testing administrator. Upon completion of the test or upon the end of the session length, whichever comes first, testing materials will be collected, and candidates will be dismissed.
